Cosmic Love with Madam Xandra is a sci-fi dramedy about a relationship/sex advice call-in show on an intergalactic planet. She broadcasts from Pleasure Sphere 64.
Madam Xandra has a sidekick, Dok Bloodnikov, a gladiator who joins her on her radio show. At some point Dok and “smut lady” (as Dok calls her) decide to go out in the galaxy and see how everyone is faring after the invasion of some Marficchians who have held some residents hostage and hurt others.
The premise of Madam Xandra’s radio show is to provide love advice. The advice certainly has parallels to non-intergalactic life forms (i.e. humanoids) which I love. But there are some issues for me around the flow of the podcast, it can be difficult to follow (see below under “flow”).
I plan to keep listening to see where Madam Xandra goes next and who else they might find alive in the galaxy after the terrorist invasion!

Host Listen-ability (3 / 5)
Madam Xandra is titillating. 😉 I think as she becomes more comfortable voicing her character she will get even better. When she is off-air, she has a very human voice, somehow I haven’t reconciled this completely yet. I have also come to enjoy Dok quite a bit, after I got used to listening to his Russian-esque accent. I’m looking forward to new characters joining the show.
Flow (both planned podcast flow and advertisement-impacted) (1 / 5)
Flow is an issue for me in this podcast. I LOVE the commercials – they are very creative and tie back to the story sometimes, which is cool. The voices and characters on the commercials are terrific. But the pace of all the activity on the show is more frenetic than quick and it takes away from being able to follow the main story. Is the main story that the pair are trying to find allies in the galaxy after an intruder outbreak, or is it a sex advice show? It’s both, but that’s confusing to me. I also think there is an overuse of music and sound effects.

I think this podcast has potential and will get better with time. It’s a fun escape for me.

Bonus stars ★
I’m awarding a bonus star for Madam Xandra contacting me herself and discussing the podcast with me. I am so happy to open my ears to new, creative media and while of course this podcast won’t appeal to everyone, it deserves a review and some publicity!
