Delicious Ingredients: April 15, 2016

Each week I will publish the most Delicious Ingredients of my Audible Feast … the scrumptious, delectable, savory, rich, sweet, and spicy podcast episodes that have fed my ears this week. This will also allow me to link directly to episodes via either Soundcloud, Stitcher, or a podcast’s website (which are often amazing and contain bonus info or complementary stories). This also brings more visual content to my site as I can link to some beautiful logos and original artwork from these sites! All episode descriptions and artwork come from the linked sites. (Note: I also try to track every episode I listen to here.)

This week I listened to quite a bit of older stuff. I’m trying to get caught up with more current episodes but there are also a lot of older gems-even shows that no longer have new episodes but are so, so good. So-my list is a little short this week, but I just want to share the best stuff with you! 🙂

Story collider

The Story Collider: Amanda Stockton: The Girl with the Big Nose (4/2/16): “Growing up on a cattle ranch, Amanda Stockton dreams of searching for life elsewhere in the universe. Dr. Amanda Stockton is an assistant professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her work walks the line between engineering and science to develop instrumentation capable of looking for organic molecules elsewhere in the solar system. These molecules could be the feedstock for an emergence of life or the remnants of past life now extinct on places like Europa, Enceladus, and Mars.”

switched on pop

Switched on Pop: Hotline Bling: Drake and Adele (11/4/15): “Drake and Adele are two megastars who may not seem to share much in common on the surface, but their recent hits exhibit some surprising parallels. Both revisit past relationships over the phone and both conceal inner anguish beneath subtle musical shifts. Featuring special appearances by the game Snake, Lord Byron and Drake and Adele themselves*, you don’t want to miss this episode. Plus, we check in with Justin Bieber as he completes his epic existential pop suite. *not really

BBC Witness

BBC’s Witness: Mallory on Everest (4/6/16): “In 1999 the body of the legendary British mountaineer, George Mallory, was found on Mount Everest. Mallory disappeared on the mountain in 1924 after making a final push for the summit with his fellow climber Andrew Irvine. They were never seen again. Witness has been speaking to Jochen Hemmleb one of the original members of the team that discovered George Mallory’s remains.”

planet moneyPlanet Money, Episode 693: Unpayable (4/1/16): “Puerto Rico is part of the United States, but not one of the United States. And this limbo status has brought a world of economic trouble. Today on the show, the peculiar Puerto Rican debt crisis explained. Along the way, we help an adorable mom sort out what’s left of her investments in her own government, we meet a chemist who benefited from the boom, and hear how it all ties in with a dramatic jail heist.”

only humanOnly Human: Doctor Stories: The Patient I’ll Never Forget ((4/12/16): “A big part of a doctor’s job is listening. They listen to our symptoms, pain and life situations. They listen for what patients aren’t telling them. They listen to heartbeats. But give them a mic, like the Annals of Internal Medicine did, and you’ll find out they also have plenty to say. This week we hear from three doctors in what we call a “Doctor Story Slam” – like a poetry slam, except with more stethoscopes and medical degrees. We often hear about how doctors change patients’ lives. We wanted to know: how do patients change their lives?  These are the kind of stories you never hear during your routine check-ups.”

What do you think of these episodes? Any specific episodes I HAVE to listen to from this week? Leave me a comment or contact me directly at audiblefeast@gmail.com!
