Stacey Simms is the First Podcaster to Make Diabetes Forecast’s Annual List

DAVIDSON, NC August 22, 2017 – Diabetes Forecast®, the Healthy Living Magazine of the American Diabetes Association, names Stacey Simms as one of 12 People to Know for 2017.

The magazine calls the list “The Movers, Shakers, and Game Changers in the Diabetes World.” The section begins: “People who care about diabetes are an impressive bunch. They’re actors and advocates, athletes, chefs, musicians, techies, and more. Here we highlight a few individuals who are making things happen. They’re raising awareness about the condition, advocating for your rights, inventing ways to make life with diabetes a little bit easier, and inspiring others to reach for their dreams.”

Stacey Simms is the host of Diabetes Connections, a weekly podcast that aims to educate and inspire about diabetes, with a focus on type 1. A former local TV anchor and radio news host, her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just before he turned two in 2006. Since then, Simms has focused on advocating and educating for and about diabetes.

Diabetes Forecast Editor Kelly Rawlings says, “Stacey has done a wonderful job in the diabetes world to make those connections and to forge those bonds. In a way the podcast replicates what we hope the whole ‘People to Know’ special section does. We are delighted to feature her.”

Diabetes Connections features prominent diabetes advocates, authors and speakers and includes personal stories of connection from people with diabetes and their family members. Simms also talks to diabetes technology companies about how new devices and advances may help ease the day to day burden on people with diabetes.

“This is such an honor and incredibly gratifying,” says Simms. “When I started the podcast in 2015 I wanted to create a show with credible information, good support and unlimited inspiration.  I also missed all the interviews I used to do as a radio host. Being on this list is a pinch-me moment.”

Simms also started Diabetes Podcast Week in 2016 and plans to repeat in 2018.  Each year, she organizes more than a dozen podcasters to help benefit the Spare a Rose, Save a Child campaign which provides diabetes supplies, medication, and education that children in developing countries need to stay alive.
